Hawkwind: Live at the Tivoli, Buckley
The Tivoli, located in the Flintshire town of Buckley in North Wales is a fantastic venue who really make an effort to put on a variety of bands from all genres.
Last night, I went to see Hawkwind, what a fantastic time! Now this is one band that has stood the test of time. They've been actively making music since 1969, that's over 40 years!
This English Rock band was one of the earliest groups of the 'Space Rock' genre. Their lyrics mostly favour a theme of urban and science fiction. They are also noted as a precursor to Punk Rock and are considered a link between the hippie and punk cultures.
The whole show was visually stunning and full of creativity! There were stage dancers (a couple of them even on stilts at one point!), stunning costumes and a mesmerising light show. All this combined with the atmospheric music provided a hypnotically entertaining treat from these psychedelic warlords!
If there is one thing that Hawkwind can do well, it is to wrap you up in their music and carry you away in their little magical bubble. With elements of synth, rock and dance, every song they played flowed into the next. I personally think they would have carried on forever had it not been for the venue curfew.
